    The Conservatorium van Amsterdam is looking for a

    Position

    The teacher will carry out teaching duties and provide guidance to principal subject students in the Bachelor's and Master's degree programmes. The teacher will play a leading role in the development of the student into a musician performing at a high professional level. The teacher will give individual and group lessons, be involved in class concerts, the further development of the education, and will sit on assessment committees.

    Profile

    The principal subject teacher of Violin:

    • Holds a Master's degree in and has an internationally outstanding artistic career, with a strong reputation as a soloist and/or as a member of an ensemble or orchestra.
    • Possesses excellent pedagogical and didactic skills at higher professional education level and is active in the (international) professional field as a teacher/coach
    • Is committed to ongoing professional development, including willingness to complete the Basic Teaching Competence Course (BDB).
    • Has abroad and forward-looking vision on career prospects for violinists, the changing professional practice, and demonstrates openness to innovation.
    • Is committed to CvA education, wishes to be part of the CvA as an educational organization, and endorses and acts in accordance with the educational goals outlined in the CvA strategic plan.
    • Seeks close collaboration with fellow teachers (team teaching) and demonstrates a flexible, open, and collegial attitude toward colleagues and the CvA organization; inspires and enthuses, and actively contributes to a safe and inclusive learning and working environment.
    • Is proficient in Dutch and/or English and lives within traveling distance of the Conservatorium van Amsterdam.

    About us

    The Conservatorium van Amsterdam (CvA) trains musicians for the national and international field of work at the highest level. To this end, it offers Bachelor's and Master's degree programmes in Classical Music, Jazz and Pop Music, a teacher training programme, various programmes for young top talent and an electronic music department. With this complete range of courses, the CvA not only fully reflects the current musical landscape, but also plays an active role in shaping the national and international music scene, now and in the future. The CvA has excellent teaching staff, a population of approximately 1,200 students and forms part of the Amsterdam University of the Arts, which also includes the Academy for Theatre and Dance, the Netherlands Film Academy, Reinwardt Academy, Breitner Academy, and the Academy of Architecture.

    Terms of employment

    The CvA offers pleasant working conditions at a beautiful location in the heart of Amsterdam. The position is assigned to salary scale 12 (senior teacher, maximum €7534.61 gross per month in the case of full-time employment). Appointment and remuneration occur in accordance with the Collective Agreement for Universities of Applied Sciences ( cao hbo ). Assignment to the salary scale is partly dependent on education, experience and last salary received. It concerns an appointment for one year as from 1 September 2026, with the intention to continue the temporary employment contract after that date. If, at the moment of employment approval, class schedules and hours are not definite yet, an employment capacity of 0.2fte will be applied, with a retroactive correction later on. The employment will be determined annually depending on the scope of the duties to be performed. It is expected that the position will expand after two years. For this position we will need you to provide a Certificate of Good Conduct (VOG).

    Procedure

    The candidate will give a short recital (10-15 minutes) with chosen repertoire and two 20-minute individual lessons to two students, with different repertoire. Following this, a job interview with the selection committee will take place, about the professional background of the candidate, and their experience with and views on teaching. The selection committee consists of the head of the classical department, the head of strings and teacher colleagues.
