    Internship:

    The purpose of this internship is to investigate and optimize the thermal management of busbars used in electric vehicle (EV) systems, particularly in applications where one side of the busbar is exposed to significant heat due to components such as contactors or fuses, while the other side is actively cooled. These components have strict maximum operating temperature limits that must not be exceeded to ensure system reliability and safety.

    This research will focus on how the integration of heatsinks can contribute to improved thermal performance. The study will combine theoretical analysis with the design and execution of thermal experiments. The goal is to develop practical design guidelines or solutions that can be applied in real-world EV power distribution systems, aligning with Sensata Technologies' focus on high-performance sensing and power management solutions.

    Required Qualifications / Skills

    - Currently pursuing a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical, Electrical or Automotive engineering

    - Proactive, curious, eager to learn, and detail-oriented

    - Strong communication and analytical skills

    - Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Word)

    - Solidworks experience

    - Language skills: English required

    Internship may be combined with a graduation project if applicable.

    Key Responsibilities

    Design and simulate thermal models to predict temperature distribution across the busbar.

  • Investigate the effectiveness of various heatsink configurations and materials in dissipating heat.
  • Set up and perform thermal experiments to validate theoretical models and simulations.
  • Collect and analyze experimental data to assess thermal performance.
  • Propose design improvements or guidelines for optimal thermal management in EV applications.
  • Document findings and present results to the engineering team at Sensata Technologies Hengelo. 4-6 main tasks the intern will support.
