Facility Scientist - High-Throughput Screening Facility

The Princess Máxima Center High-Throughput Screening (HTS) Facility is looking for a Facility Scientist with a passion for automation and advanced screening workflows. You will play a key role in developing and operating high-throughput screening pipelines on the HTS platform (group of 20 instruments), to support research strategies aimed at the development of personalized cancer therapies.

Duties and responsibilities

The HTS platform is an automated drug screening pipeline in which 20 different instruments are integrated, including a Beckman Biomek i7, multidrop liquid dispenser and Echo 550 liquid handler. It enables high throughput of large-scale screening assays in 384 well plate formats and automation of cell and organoid related assays. You will be working with a facility (senior) scientist, and together you are responsible to operate and maintain the entire system, run the screening workflows from setup to data acquisition and early-stage analysis. You will help generate screening results using high parameter data generation software. You will also serve as the central point of contact for internal users.

In addition, you will contribute to a research project to identify new therapeutic options for childhood cancer. This will involve cell/organoid culture, systematic compound testing using the HTS, and data interpretation.

You will be part of a collaborative and innovative HTS/flowcytometry team supporting leading-edge cancer research.

Responsibilities

• Daily operations and technology development of HTS facility.
• Design, establish, document and run workflows on the HTS screening platform.
• Write and maintain SOPs and workflow manuals.
• Support integration of the flow cytometry with automated sample handling systems (e.g., Beckman liquid handler).
• Train new users on the Biomek i7 and its software.
• Assist researchers in optimizing experiment and analysis workflows.
• Perform cell/organoid culture and HTS compound exposure assays.

Profile

We are looking for a proactive and detail-oriented person with a strong interest for automation. Experience with flow cytometry is an advantage, as is curiosity for innovation and technology. You enjoy automating workflows, troubleshooting protocols, and working in an interdisciplinary team. Your efforts will directly accelerate the translation of drug and cellular research into precision oncology strategies.

What you need to be successful:

• A completed MBO or HBO degree in biomedical sciences, life sciences, or a related field.
• Hands-on experience with automation, preferably Biomek i7, echo 550.
• Affinity with cell/organoid culture, practical lab experience is a strong advantage.
• Interest or experience in live-cell imaging and multiwell plate-based assays.
• Comfort with digital data handling, including large image datasets.
• Affinity with statistical computing and programming.
• Structured working style with strong documentation and organizational skills.
• Strong communication and collaboration skills.

Our job offer

We offer a Facility Scientist position for 32 - 36 hours per week in an inspiring and multidisciplinary research environment. You will initially be appointed for a period of 1 year with the possibility of extension. Your gross monthly salary will depend on experience and background, starting in scale 45 or 50 with a maximum of €4.723,- gross a month based on a fulltime position (36 hours). You will also receive 8.33% gross monthly salary holiday allowance and 8.33% end-of-year bonus. The Princess Máxima Center operates according to the collective labour agreement 'cao algemene ziekenhuizen'.

High Throughput Screening Facility

You will be embedded at the interface of two expert facilities: the Princess Máxima High-Throughput Screening (HTS) facility and Flow cytometry facility. You will work under the daily supervision of the facility manager in close collaboration with other facility scientists and research teams.
