Internship: Film & Impact
As we prepare for the upcoming festival, we're looking for two Industry interns to join our team and support the Head of Industry in creating a dynamic, inspiring Industry Programme that welcomes both national and international guests. The roles include a general Industry Assistant and a Film & Impact - with the latter focusing on helping to shape and deliver the Film & Impact strand of the programme.
About Movies that Matter
Movies that Matter wants to broaden views for human rights. We offer a stage to feature films and documentaries about human rights and a just and sustainable society - films that amaze and inspire. We show these films at the annual Movies that Matter Festival in The Hague, throughout the year in cinemas across the Netherlands, through film festivals in countries where press freedom is at stake, and at secondary and vocational schools throughout the country.
The Movies that Matter Festival 2026 will take place from 20 - 28 March 2026 in The Hague. The Industry Days take place between 22 - 25 March. The industry programme focuses mainly on creating impact with film and consists of closed trainings, masterclasses, pitches, and one-on-one meetings. We work with filmmakers, (impact) producers, NGOs, funders, broadcasters, and representatives of other festivals and organisations.
What will you do?
This internship focuses on supporting the Head of Industry in the organisation and delivery of the Film & Impact strand of the Industry Programme. The role offers insight into how impact-driven film projects are developed and supported through collaborations with NGOs, funders, and broadcasters.
This position is well-suited for someone who's passionate about how film can drive human rights and social change. It's especially ideal for candidates with knowledge or experience working with NGOs, foundations, broadcasters, or impact producers.
During this internship, you will:
- Assist in preparing and running the Film & Impact activities before and during the Industry Days;
- Liaise with selected projects and maintain clear communication with filmmakers and partners;
- Collect and manage all project materials for announcements and programme publications;
- Oversee the Impact Travel Fund and prepare detailed participant schedules;
- Organise and collect materials for pitches (trailers, project information, visuals);
- Support the setup of one-on-one meetings between filmmakers, NGOs, advocacy groups, and other stakeholders;
- Perform administrative, research, and production tasks to ensure smooth delivery of the programme;
- Support the Head of Industry in the overall production and execution of the Industry Programme.
Who are you?
- You are proactive and not afraid to pick up the phone.
- You have an affinity with film, human rights, and social impact.
- You are flexible, accurate, independent, and stress-resistant.
- You have excellent written and verbal communication skills in English (Dutch is a plus).
What do we offer you?
- Hands-on experience in a cultural organisation.
- Close mentorship and guidance from our Head of Industry.
- A dynamic, socially engaged work environment, where you'll join a passionate team committed to creating an unforgettable festival experience.
- An internship allowance of €300-€400 per month (based on 24 hours per week). If you're not enrolled in a study programme, you'll receive a volunteer allowance of €210 per month (based on 24 hours per week). Lunches are covered.
- Accommodation in The Hague during the festival (including breakfast, lunch, and dinner) if you live outside the city.
Period and working days
Internship period: the internship runs from 5 January to 17 April 2026, for an average of 16 to 24 hours per week, depending on availability.
Working days: Working days are arranged in consultation. During the Industry Days (Sunday 22 to Wednesday 25 March 2026), you are required to be available in person in The Hague full-time.
Location: Our main office is in Amsterdam, in the Amnesty International building. We'll also work regularly from Theater aan het Spui in The Hague.
