The Applied Computer Science programme is looking for experts in Embedded Programming, Cyber Security and Artificial Intelligence who are passionate about educating young talent.

What does the job look like?

As a Lecturer in Applied Computer Science, you will contribute to both the development as well as the delivery of the curriculum. You will serve as a role model for students, both as a subject matter expert and as a professional with excellent communication and collaboration skills.

The programme launched in September 2025, and the curriculum is still in development. The content is up-to-date and state-of-the-art. The focus of your tasks will be to contribute in futher developing both the structure and the content of the programme and teach it to the students. Your responsibilities will also include strengthening ties with industry and facilitating the integration of education and research across various research groups at The Hague University of Applied Sciences. You will also be involved in student recruitment, coaching, and supervising project groups.

You are enthusiastic about sharing your knowledge (e.g., embedded programming, Python and C, cybersecurity, (responsible) AI, machine learning). This knowledge is applied directly in quarterly practice-based projects and is coordinated with colleagues to ensure a coherent and engaging programme. You will work in a small team of lecturers within a broader group of professionals from both academia and industry. Interested in research? Part of your appointment can be dedicated to conducting research within one of our research groups, such as the Centre of Expertise Cyber Security.

You are curious, eager to learn, and generous in sharing your knowledge and experience with colleagues and students. Individual appointments can be up to 1.0 FTE, with the possibility of part-time roles to allow for a combination with industry work or research at our Centres of Expertise Cyber Security or Digital Operations and Finance.

To be successful in this role, your CV should ideally demonstrate:

  • A completed academic degree (WO) in (Technical) Computer Science or a related field;
  • Proficiency in computer languages, such as Python;
  • Experience with embedded programming in C or C++;
  • Knowledge of agile development;
  • Affinity with cybersecurity topics such as ethical hacking, penetration testing, or technical countermeasures
  • Excellent command of English, both spoken and written;
  • A teaching qualification or willingness to obtain one (at our expense).

  • An appointment as soon as possible in a temporary post for the period of one year (0,7 FTE - 1,0 FTE) with an option for extension (D4) in salary scale 11;
  • If you have a permanent contract at THUAS, we will take your current terms of employment into account. Internal candidates will be given priority over external ones;
  • A salary of a minimum of € 4.535, 76 and maximum of € 6.359,47 for a full working week, excluding 8% vacation allowance. (Our terms of employment are in accordance with the cao-hbo);
  • A guaranteed end-of-year pay of 8.3%;
  • A green travel expense scheme: if you choose public transportation, you will receive 100% reimbursement for an NS business card 2 nd class in your name.

The pogramme

This three-year, English-taught bachelor's programme is designed for Dutch students with a pre-university (VWO) diploma and international students with an equivalent qualification. It is offered at our Delft campus, located on the TU Delft grounds.

In the first year, students learn the fundamentals of programming in Python and C. They also gain knowledge in cyber security, (ethical) hacking, and data science. The effective use of AI is a recurring theme throughout the curriculum. In the second year, students choose a specialization: Embedded Engineering or Cyber Security. They also do an internship or a minor in the second year. The third year focuses on further specialization and includes a graduation project in a professional setting.
