The BPRC is a biomedical research institute that contributes to the development of medicines and vaccines, but also aims to refine animal models and to explore alternative techniques.

We are looking for a

Scientist

You will be joining the new Platform of Advanced In vitro Systems (AIMS) , which has ambition to generate new and expand on the existing disease models in vitro . The department offers a dynamic and stimulating work environment.

The project:

The project will focus on exploring the long-term molecular consequences of viral infections such as SARS-CoV-2 or influenza in digestive system. Based on the analysis of the intestinal tissues from non-human primate viral infection models you will investigate molecular players of long-term pathology of viral infection in the intestinal track. You will use existing and generate new in vitro disease models using organoid technology to dissect molecular mechanisms driving the pathology of viral infection in the intestine. You will have access to state of art infrastructure essential for the success of this project including high throughput confocal microscopy (Celldiscoverer 7) (see picture), imaging spectral flow cytometer and sorter (Discover S8), BSL3 level cell culture laboratories and organoid and iPSC cell culture laboratory.

Your profile:

We are seeking an outstanding and highly motivated candidate with the following profile:

• PhD in cell/molecular biology or related disciplines;
• Experience with molecular and cell biology techniques and tissue culture is required;
• Previous training with modelling viral infections using organoids is a plus;
• Good verbal & written communication skills in English;
• Analytical and creative mindset to solve problems effectively;
• Ability to work impartially, individually, and proactively;
• Communicator and team player;
• Ambition to develop own ideas and apply for funding;
• Positive attitude towards the research conducted in the institute.
