Postdoc CMOS Readout Circuit for Spin Qubits
CMOS Readout circuit for spin qubits.
Job description
We are seeking a motivated Researcher to evaluate the feasibility and scalability of gate-dispersive and RF reflectometry readout techniques for semiconductor spin qubits using cryogenic CMOS (cryo-CMOS) electronics. The position focuses on enabling high-fidelity, scalable qubit readout architectures by combining analog/RF circuit design, cryogenic characterization, and quantum-device integration.
The researcher will perform detailed electrical characterization of the receiver with a passive voltage-gain frontend at both 300 K and 4 K using dipstick and cryogenic probe-station setups. This includes extracting gain, noise, linearity, impedance, and stability metrics under cryogenic operation. The candidate will reconcile experimental results with theoretical models and circuit-level simulations, refining analytical frameworks to accurately capture cryogenic effects and device non-idealities.
Subject to qubit availability, the researcher will perform spin-qubit readout experiments using the CMOS receiver platform, optimizing operating conditions to maximize readout fidelity while minimizing back-action and power consumption. In parallel, the role includes a thorough analytical comparison of RF reflectometry and gate-dispersive readout techniques, assessing trade-offs in signal-to-noise ratio, bandwidth, power efficiency, integration complexity, and scalability toward multi-qubit systems.
The outcome of this work will provide quantitative design guidelines for scalable cryo-CMOS-based readout architectures for spin-qubit quantum processors, bridging semiconductor circuit engineering and quantum hardware development.
Requirements
- PhD (or near completion) in Electrical Engineering, Applied Physics, or related field.
- Strong background in analog/RF IC design and low-noise measurement techniques.
- Experience with cryogenic measurements and/or quantum devices is highly desirable.
- Proficiency in circuit simulation and analytical modeling.
