Job description

As a member of a team of developers, you realise projects and build services in which geo-information and earth observation data always play a role. We make our unique datasets available through various APIs. Processing, storing and offering this data also brings challenges; do you know the fastest way to process satellite images from all over the world? Or the most accurate way to monitor agricultural activities at country level? Together with the team, you look for creative solutions and the best approach to process this huge amount of data. You will also help build lightning-fast tools to take our production to the next level. So you will be involved in the entire, complex process of creating a usable end product from satellite, aerial and point-cloud data.

This is the role for you if you enjoy diving into complex problems independently or together with a team. You communicate effectively, are proactive and spot timely opportunities and bottlenecks. Key responsibilities

• Designing, developing and optimising Python modules for geospatial data processing.
• Building scalable, distributed computing workflows with Ray clusters.
• Integrate and automate workflows with orchestration tools (e.g. Dagster).
• Implement, maintain and optimise cloud workflows on AWS.
• Develop and manage robust Docker containers for reproducible environments.
• Collaborate on database management and schema design (PostgreSQL/PostGIS).
• Working with large geospatial and satellite datasets.
• Secure code quality through unit and integration testing.
• Participate in code reviews, documentation and joint development.

Knowledge and experience

We are looking for people with the following knowledge and experience:

• 3+ years' experience in software development.
• Experience with the following technologies: Cloud (AWS); Docker; CI/CD, DevOps.
• Strong Python skills.
• Creative and "out of the box", but focused on the end goal.
• Experience with Git.
• Experience with databases (e.g. PostgreSQL).

Prefer (not required) if you also have experience with:

• Parquet.
• "Modern" data management concepts, such as datalake/lakehouse.
• Developing APIs (FastAPI).
• Geo software such as GDAL and QGIS.
• Familiarity with OGC standards (e.g. WMS, STAC, etc.).
• Affinity with remote sensing and earth observation data (aerial and satellite imagery).
• Parallelisation frameworks (e.g. Ray / Spark / Dask).
