Funding Officer

The Faculty of Economics & Business at the University of Groningen is looking for a funding officer. As Funding Officer, you advise researchers in exploring various grant opportunities and you support them in preparing grant applications and provide substantive feedback on applications. Your expertise will empower rearchers to focus on their work while you handle the complexities of funding.

What are you going to do?

Your responsibilities are:

  • Disseminate up-to-date information on national, regional and European funding opportunities, with a focus on NWO, ERC, and MSCA grants.
  • Provide researchers with clear, structured, and timely guidance on grant schemes.
  • Work closely with Research Program Directors, the Vice Dean of Research, and Heads of Departments to assess eligibility and match researchers with suitable funding opportunities.
  • Identify high-potential researchers, helping them develop strategies to strengthen their grant applications.
  • Review grant proposals to ensure they meet formal requirements.
  • Offer end-to-end procedural support, from application guidance to deadline monitoring and administrative coordination.
  • Represent the faculty at external workshops and events to stay ahead of funding trends.
  • Collaborate with colleagues in internal FFO meetings to align strategies and share insights.

Who are you?

We are seeking a proactive and knowledgeable Funding Advisor who thrives in a dynamic academic environment. You are:

  • Academically inclined, with the ability to navigate complex funding landscapes.
  • Experienced or passionate about research funding, particularly in economics and business.
  • A strong communicator, fluent in both Dutch and English.
  • Collaborative and strategic, with a knack for identifying opportunities and supporting researchers in securing grants.

What can you expect from us?

  • In accordance with the collective labor agreement for Dutch universities, we offer a salary of at least € 3.546 (Schaal 10) up to a maximum of € 6.433 (Schaal 11) gross per month for a full-time employment contract.
  • 232 vacation hours per year, based on a 38-hour workweek (1.0 FTE). You can also work more or fewer hours in exchange for more or fewer free hours. For example, with a 40-hour workweek, you save 96 extra free hours, and with a 36-hour workweek, you lose 96 hours.
  • End-of-year bonus of 8.3% and 8% holiday allowance.
  • Extensive opportunities for personal and professional development.
  • Contract duration: The appointment is for the period of 1 year. After six months, a results and development interview will take place to determine whether the appointment can be converted to permanent employment.

The funding officer is part of FEB's research office and will replace in due time the current funding officer, who will retire in the fall of 2026. You also work together with project control, the EU-funding team, talent consultants, the other Funding Officers within the University of Groningen (UG) and research directors.
