Research Technician de Ridder Group - AI and diagnostics

De Ridder Group is seeking an enthusiastic and highly motivated research technician.

Tasks and responsibilities

In this position, you will contribute to the validation of in-house developed diagnostic tools. This will require handling different types of samples, such as tumor biopsies or cerebrospinal fluid. The different approaches also require different analysis techniques, such as nanopore sequencing and illumina next-gen sequencing. In this role you will also optimize wet-lab protocols, and explore new methods of data generation. You will be responsible for raw data handling and archiving. As a bridge between the clinic and the bioinformaticians, communication skills are a key factor for this role.

Education and skills

We are looking for a junior research technician with a BSc in Molecular Life Sciences (HLO) or BSc/MSc degree in Biomedical Sciences or related studies. The candidate should ideally be experienced in DNA isolation techniques, next-gen sequencing, data handling and have working knowledge of bioinformatics, linux operating systems and coding in R and/or python.

We welcome curious and eager candidates who enjoy working in a multidisciplinary team and have an affinity with cancer diagnostics and bioinformatics. The candidate should be able to manage multiple projects simultaneously, work independently and organized. A good command of the English language is required.

Our job offer

We offer a research technician position for 32 - 36 hours per week in an inspiring and multidisciplinary research environment. You will initially be appointed for a period of 1 year with a possible extension. Your gross monthly salary will depend on experience and background, starting in scale 45 based on a fulltime position (36 hours). You also receive 8,33% gross monthly salary holiday allowance and 8,33% end-of-year bonus. The Princess Máxima Center operates according to the collective labour agreement 'cao algemene ziekenhuizen'.

De Ridder Group

The de Ridder group is a multidisciplinary group with a focus on bioinformatics and AI for cancer diagnostics. We develop algorithms for next-gen and nanopore sequencing in close collaboration with the clinic to validate and implement our tools, and to thereby improve patient care. While our main focus is tool development, we also validate these tools in a clinical setting, which requires sample collection and processing.
