Funding & Project Specialist

As a Project & Subsidy Specialist, you turn opportunities into concrete, fundable innovation projects. You operate at the intersection of biology, technology and impact driven entrepreneurship. You identify relevant funding opportunities, write strong project proposals and coordinate consortia and collaborations without working hands-on in the lab. You ensure projects run smoothly from idea to application, and from planning to reporting.

Biological

Internship: Red seaweed species

As an intern, you will have the opportunity to contribute to the development of cultivation techniques for emerging commercially relevant species. This position offers a unique hands-on learning opportunity on the techniques and challenges behind seaweed domestication.

You will learn how to set up and maintain long term cultures,

how to identify and control induction and production

parameters, while adding to the team's ongoing research.

The basis for breeding and establishing high quality production cultures of seaweed is clean starting material. We therefore focus on developing and establishing methods to prevent and mitigate biological contaminations in our cultures, while at the same time preserving the beneficial microbiome. As an intern, you will work alongside experienced researchers and breeding specialists to develop and implement solutions to this pressing issue. With our collaborations and projects with Leiden University and Wageningen, it is also possible to examine the microbiome using a molecular approach. This is an excellent opportunity to gain hands-on experience in biotechnology research and contribute to the development of innovative solutions to real-world challenges.

Internship: nutrient media for production and breeding

As an intern you will work on identifying optimal nutrient media compositions for different stages of seaweed cultivation. You will need to familiarize yourself with maintaining seaweed cultures, saltwater nutrient chemistry and existing nutrient media to use as a basis for conducting your own experiments. You will work in a team of interns under the guidance of our scientists. The final product of your work should be a contribution to our understanding of seaweed cultivation and the components in incoming natural seawater and optimal ratios of macronutrients such as nitrogen and phosphate.

Internship: Online Marketing & Communication

From: As soon as possible Period: 4-10 months

As Hortimare has taken a key position within the seaweed industry globally, we want to expand our online presence. Within this internship, you will have a big impact on the repositioning of Hortimare from a seed provider to a partner in scaling the seaweed sector and enable the public a better access to our work and services. Highlighting our focus on research, collaboration, quality, and expertise throughout different social media platforms is an essential part in this process.

Technical-biological

Internship: Seeding tech

As a Seeding Tech intern, you will work at the interface between biology, materials, and engineering. You will support the development, optimisation, and validation of techniques that improve seaweed seeding efficiency and reliability.
