Associate digital information law (media and platforms)

Brinkhof is looking for an associate for its digital information law (media and platforms) practice.

Who we are looking for

You have been working as a Dutch- or other EU-qualified lawyer for around 4 to 8 years. You have considerable litigation experience, independently and/or as part of a larger team. You are versed in digital information law, and have a keen interest in the players and developments within the tech and media sectors.

You want to tackle the most challenging, timely, high-impact cases, and to win them. You have the research skills to get the most out of the facts and the law, and the critical thinking and writing skills to craft complex briefs and advice in an appealing and understandable way. Clients, regulators and judges find reading your work enjoyable and rewarding.

In keeping with our work for innovative technology companies, you are AI savvy: you actively follow developments in this field, know how to use AI to speed up or improve your work, and can quickly understand the technological context and translate it into legal strategy.

Your written and spoken English are near-native fluent, and you have a working understanding of Dutch or a willingness to develop it over time. Some proficiency in French, German or another European language would be useful.

The media and platform team currently consists of three partners (Remy Chavannes, Dorien Verhulst and Anke Strijbos), three associates and two junior associates. We work closely with our clients, with each other and with colleagues who focus on related areas of law such as privacy, consumer and competition law. Our lawyers are super-specialists, as are many of our clients.

What we do

The lawyers in Brinkhof's media and platform team work on complex litigation and pragmatic advice across the full spectrum of (mostly digital) information law, with an emphasis on cases at the intersection of copyright, media, privacy and freedom of expression. Although we are based in Amsterdam and regularly appear before Dutch courts and regulators, the majority of our work has an EU-level focus.

Much our work is for global online platforms and AI companies, who find themselves under intense public and scrutiny and operate at the centre of the most exciting issues in digital information law. We advise and represent global tech and media companies in all phases of the regulatory lifecycle, from supporting to public affairs teams in the legislative phase to working on national transpositions, product compliance, enforcement and litigation. We focus on EU rules such as the Digital Services Act, AI Act, DSM Copyright Directive and AVMS Directive, including their relationship to each other and to national laws. We also litigate for a wide range of media and tech companies in civil and administrative law cases, including class actions, concerning e.g. media regulation and supervision, unlawful publications, digital and audiovisual copyright, freedom of information and the reuse of government information.
