Chief Mate

Mate (Male/Female) - Volunteer

As a mate on board the Eendracht, you are responsible for navigation at sea. The three mates work on a watch system of 4 hours on and 8 hours off. During their watch, they are in charge of the volunteer and guest crew on duty at that time. Our mates often work professionally on merchant vessels and volunteer on the Eendracht during their time off.

What will you be doing?

• Responsible for the safety of the ship and crew during your watch.
• Determines the sail plan during the watch in consultation with the skipper.
• Responsible for navigation during the watch.
• Maintains nautical publications, charts, and GMDSS equipment.
• Assists colleagues on deck with tasks as needed.

What we are looking for

• Holder of a 'Chief Mate'certificate for all ships under 3000 GT with a minimum of 500 GT.
• Master: Officer in Charge of a Navigational Watch, no limitations, along with the required trainings and maritime medical certificate.
• Aged between 18 and 60.
• Available for at least 10 days per year as a volunteer.
• Affinity for working with volunteers and contributing to a good cause.
• Sociable and communicative.
• Affinity with sea sailing.
