Operations Manager

For the new sailing season, we are looking for an operations manager who will be responsible for day-to-day operational activities. This is a versatile position that can be further developed and expanded at your discretion after an introductory period. Depending on your experience, you will perform the following duties:

Commercial administrative

• Process information flow and reservation requests via email
• Provide information to customers via telephone
• Provide information to customers at our office Oudegracht 175W
• Preparing, sending and documenting offers and confirmations
• Planning and organizing boat trips through SEM (Smart Event Manager )
• Submit orders to suppliers
• Assist with part accounting (billing and cashiering) etc.
• Scanning incoming documents
• Any other common work related to the position.

Personnel Administration

• Scheduling and arrangement of skippers
• Maintaining time records skipper
• Directing the barge crew at departure jetty

• Preparing catering for the boat trips
• Processing incoming orders
• If necessary, assist skippers with boarding and un-catering the boats

• Replacing management during absences
• ( pre ) Sailing on our passenger ships, tour boats and salon boat.
• Checking boats at night storage ( Hooghiemstra and moorings in the canal )
• Keeping an overview of the departing and arriving boats at the jetty on the Oudegracht.
• Working a Saturday shift at least every other week
• Maintaining contacts with business partners (including Tourism Utrecht and package holders)

• Have a flexible attitude,
• Can work accurately and accurately,
• Are able to maintain an overview in a chaotic environment and when busy and can switch tasks easily without losing your accuracy and friendliness,
• Enjoys thinking with customers and is able to speak to them in a friendly and clear manner,
• Enjoys dealing with people,
• have commercial acumen, are enthusiastic, assertive and driven and enjoy winning orders without losing your individuality,
• Can work independently after an introductory period,
• Are able to schedule and keep track of your own hours (no 9 to 5 mentality)
• May supervise an assistant employee/trainee and the barge crew,
• Have at least basic knowledge of e-mail programs, MS Word and MS Excel and Outlook and have good command of the Internet and user-friendly reservation systems,
• Have an affinity with water sports and boating as well as an interest in the hospitality industry, attractions, wedding locations, etc. in Utrecht,
• Proficient in the Dutch language both verbally and in writing
• Mastered at least basic English in word and writing,
• Are resident in Utrecht.

• familiar with restaurants, wedding venues, attractions and landmarks in the center of Utrecht,
• Experience in boating, and willing to obtain at least your Boating License (VB1 ).
• Related tourism education or experience within a commercial company,
• Are not smoking.

We were a party of 10 ladies who travel to different cities for a break, and have been doing so for the last 18 years (started very young). We booked a canal trip with Varen in Utrecht including refreshments on Saturday 11th October. It was excellent. Our skipper, Walter (I hope that is spelt correctly) was very informative, pleasant and helpful during our trip. All refreshments were as promised. I would highly recommend this company.

Wat een fantastische avond! Met ons team van 22 collega's hebben we een onvergetelijke tapastour beleefd onder de enthousiaste begeleiding van . Op deze prachtige nazomeravond genoten we van heerlijke hapjes en drankjes terwijl we Utrecht vanaf het water verkenden. Het blijft bijzonder hoeveel moois je ontdekt zodra je de stad vanaf een sloep bekijkt. De tapas waren verrukkelijk, er was volop keuze en er werd uitstekend rekening gehouden met alle dieetwensen. Ook de drankjes waren goed verzorgd en ruim voldoende aanwezig. De sloep zelf was comfortabel en ruim, wat bijdroeg aan de ontspannen sfeer aan boord. Kortom: een perfect georganiseerde avond vol gezelligheid, smaak en verrassingen. Wat ons betreft zeker voor herhaling vatbaar!

Fantastische ervaring! Schipper heeft ons een geweldige tour gegeven op de Utrechtse grachten en singels. Catering was dik in orde en we hebben het zo naar onze zin gehad! Ook tijdens de correspondentie vooraf aan de boottocht heb ik heel prettige ervaringen gehad: denken in mogelijkheden en niet in beperkingen en dat werkt zo goed! Ik raad iedereen zeker aan hier een sloepentocht te boeken.

Bezoekers van Utrecht vergeten vaak dat de grachten net zo aantrekkelijk zijn als die van Amsterdam en de beste manier om ze te zien is per boot. Ook goede hoeken voor fotografie.

De Hollandse Waterlinie is eerlijk gezegd een van de coolste, minder bekende dingen van Nederland - een volledig verdedigingssysteem gebaseerd op overstromende laaggelegen gebieden. Veel van de forten langs de Hollandse Waterlinie zijn nog intact. Er zijn zelfs tochten, te voet en met de fiets, langs het verdedigingssysteem. Sommige forten huisvesten fietsers en wandelaars 's nachts, en in 2010 werd een loopbrug door een van de bunkers gesneden, waardoor het een publiek toegankelijke historische tentoonstelling werd.
