About the job

As a missionary and social worker, you are the coordinator of all activities of Living in Southwest. You work together with the community's other missionary and social worker. Together, you divide all existing tasks, direct all volunteers and work on the future of the project. You are supported by all kinds of volunteers from the neighbourhood and supporting churches and work closely with the core team and the board of Leven in Zuidwest.

As a missionary and social worker, you enjoy being hands on with all kinds of different tasks and activities. After all, at Leven in Zuidwest, all sorts of things happen. The heart of our organisation is our drop-in centre. There is a weekly Walk-in Café, where people can go for coffee and conversation. We also hold our Repair Café and Wool Café there. Other activities include financial consultations, craft club and meals. On a missionary level, Christian celebrations are organised, there is an Alpha course and there are Bible study groups. As a missionary and social worker, you will ensure that all these activities are organised and you will also actively participate in them.

In all these activities, you have a warm and loving heart for all the people who come your way, especially those on the margins of society. People who come to us are often looking for connection or help. You enjoy being connected to all these people and have a listening ear for everyone who comes your way. If there is a request for help, you help where possible or help people find the path to other agencies. In your contacts with people, you are motivated by your faith in Jesus Christ and have a warm heart for sharing the gospel.

Many volunteers are active at Leven in Zuidwest. They also organise some of the activities. As a missionary and social worker, you are active in recruiting, directing, motivating and enthusing volunteers.

Living in Southwest is active and growing. You are a driving factor in this. You think about the future: what are activities that work and help people move forward, how can the project be sustainably anchored in the neighbourhood and what will the project look like in five years' time? For this, you maintain contacts with the participating churches, a network in the neighbourhood and with the municipality of The Hague. You are active in fundraising and, together with the board, see new opportunities in this area as well.

Job requirements

• You are an active Christian and a committed church member. You have a living relationship with God and a warm heart for sharing the gospel of Jesus Christ.
• You have demonstrable MBO+ or HBO working and thinking level, in subject area theology and/or social work.
• You are a real connector. You connect quickly and easily with all kinds of people. You are inviting and involved. You preferably have experience in working with people living in loneliness, poverty or low literacy.
• You preferably have several years of working experience within a Christian missionary and social project. You have a vision for these projects anyway. You are active and creative in looking for new opportunities to build our community. You involve social partners, including partners in the neighbourhood, the municipality of The Hague and the churches involved. You continue to build a network of agencies in the field of social and/or diaconal assistance.

What we offer

• Living in Southwest is a warm, diverse and passionate organisation. The people who work with us have a heart for Christ, for each other and for the neighbourhood. You may become part of this community.
• A contract for initially 12-16 hours a week (0.3-0.4 fte). We would eventually like to extend this to 24 hours a week (0.6 fte) and are currently exploring financial options for this. This is a temporary contract for 1 year, with the prospect of extension.
• We follow the Conditions of Employment for Church Workers of Steunpunt Kerkenwerk. Depending on education and work experience, you will be placed in scale A or B.
