Vacancy: Director (32 hr/wk)

Wemos is a Netherlands-based civil society organization, founded in 1979. We strive for a world where everyone has access to health and wellbeing. No matter who you are and where you live. It is our mission to drive structural change to achieve global health justice. With a highly motivated team of around 15 staff (global health experts and support staff) we analyze the root causes of health inequity. We present solutions and call for action on the topics: access to medicines, finance for health and inclusive health systems. We have a flat organizational culture and the values that guide us are grounded, constructive, and fair. The management is in the hands of the director, who reports to the supervisory board. The division of tasks, authorities and responsibilities is defined in Wemos' statutes.

The position

The Director is responsible for the organization and for implementing its mission. Responsibilities include strategy development and implementation, fundraising and diversifying funding sources, managing business operations and staff, and acting as the organization's main spokesperson. In a volatile political and funding context, the Director will play a key role leading the organization towards sustainability in the long term.

Key responsibilities

• To implement the organization's mission and values in all planning, activities and ways of working.
• To lead the management team and oversee expert and operations staff.
• To supervise strategic fundraising, partnerships and finances.
• In the short term, to further diversify funding sources to ensure operations at sufficient scale.
• To refresh the strategy, leading the organization towards increased sustainability.
• To ensure that the organization's governance, financial and operational model remains fit for purpose and impact.
• To act as the main organizational spokesperson in key global, regional and national forums.
• To maintain accountability and transparency, towards partners and donors and implement risk mitigation measures.

Qualifications and experience

• 10-15 years of work experience in global public policy, global and/or public health, and/or development / humanitarian partnerships.
• At least 5 years of leadership, staff management and budget oversight experience.
• Experience engaging with political stakeholders, funders and NGOs in the Netherlands.
• A proven track record in fundraising from diverse sources of funding.
• An extensive network in areas relevant to Wemos' mission, internationally and across sectors, including a strong network in the European region and specifically in the Netherlands.
• A track record in convening and successfully establishing partnerships and mobilizing collective action and/or advocacy.
• Strong communication skills, in speaking, writing and external representation, including experience as media spokesperson.
• Desirable: Experience working at an NGO.

Competencies

• Required: Fluency in English.
• Desirable: Fluency in Dutch.
• Strong ethical and management values, aligned with Wemos' mission and values.
• Proven teamwork, communication and partnership skills in intercultural and diverse settings.
• Ability and willingness to work in a volatile political and funding landscape.
• A valid work permit for the Netherlands is required.
• Occasional international and regional travel is required.
