Programming Officer

About Fenix

Fenix is the new art museum about migration in Rotterdam. Artists, photographers, chefs, and other creative makers share stories that transcend borders. Stories about love and farewell, coming home and feeling at home, identity and the search for happiness. At this historic site of departure and arrival, where millions of Europeans once left, and people from all over the world arrived, we show that migration is timeless and deeply personal.

About the Team

Through our exhibitions and cultural events, we bring stories about migration to life and create space for encounter. The majority of our cultural programming is developed in close collaboration with organizations, makers, communities, and initiatives from Rotterdam and beyond. This collaboration is not secondary-it is the foundation of our program.

As a Programming Officer, you are part of the Programming Team. The team develops and organizes cultural events, mainly on Plein and occasionally within the exhibitions. In this role, you work with diverse audiences and partners.

Within the team, you are responsible for the production process from A to Z and for building and maintaining an active network of collaborative partners in the city and beyond.

You are a substantive and reliable partner for collaborators. You engage in dialogue about ideas, ambitions, and possibilities, and jointly develop cultural events that are meaningful in content and aligned with Fenix's mission, framework and organizational capacity.

You move easily between different communities, organizations, and makers and know how to build sustainable relationships. You represent Fenix within the network and contribute to the further positioning of Plein as an urban platform.

You ensure that ideas are translated into professionally executed events that are both conceptually strong and organizationally solid. During events, you hold final operational responsibility on Plein and maintain oversight of planning, technical production, hospitality, and audience flow.

Due to the high number of events, we are looking for an experienced colleague who is proactive and available during evenings and weekends.

You will work within a team of three Programming Officers and report to the Programming Coordinator.

Main responsibilities

• Initiate, maintain, and deepen relationships with collaborative partners in the city and beyond;
• Co-develop cultural events with partners that align with Fenix's mission and framework;
• Identify opportunities in the city and translate them into new collaborations and programming;
• Coordinate the full production process of public events: from preparation and planning to execution and evaluation;
• Translate concepts into clear production plans and realistic schedules;
• Carefully align production, technical, hospitality and logistical aspects;
• Monitor budgets, deadlines and contractual agreements;
• Ensure clear task allocation and briefing of internal teams;
• Hold final operational responsibility during events;
• Evaluate productions and actively contribute improvement points.

Who are you?

• At least 5 years of experience in event organization or (pre-)production, preferably in the cultural or creative sector;
• A team player and connector with a warm personality;
• Flexible in navigating the dynamics of a developing organization;
• Structured, stress-resistant and able to maintain oversight at all times;
• Social, hospitable and comfortable collaborating with various teams and partners;
• A strong sense of experience design and audience engagement;
• Well-connected in Rotterdam's cultural field and able to build relationships with makers and communities;
• Proficient in Dutch and English. We aim to welcome visitors in many languages, do you speak additional languages? Wonderful!
• Affinity with the themes of migration, art and culture.
