Description

Galileo G2SB1 (Galileo 2nd generation Satellite Batch 1) Satellite Platform Manager in the Space Segment Management Office, Galileo and EGNOS Programme Department, Directorate of Navigation.

You will be responsible for supervision of the platform design, development, implementation and validation of the G2SB1 Galileo 2nd Generation satellites, including the ground test campaign, in-orbit commissioning and in-orbit follow-up phases.

Duties

Your main duties will include:

  • engineering activities relevant to platform design, development, validation, qualification and acceptance to ensure the satellite meets Agency requirements;
  • consolidation and maintenance of the platform subsystem and equipment requirements specification, design, development, testing and verification;
  • monitoring of industrial work associated with platform and related ground support equipment procurement, ensuring full compliance with technical and programmatic requirements;
  • support for the definition and running of the satellite verification programme in your areas of responsibility, including implementation and monitoring of AIT/AIV activities on platform subsystems and units;
  • technical responsibility for the design and procurement of spacecraft subsystems, including structure, thermal, propulsion, mechanisms, power (generation and storage), avionics (AOCS and data handling), TT&C and inter-satellite links;
  • monitoring of industrial work to ensure the satellite design complies with launcher interface requirements;
  • contribution to control and management of system satellite budgets in your areas of responsibility and ensuring the satellite design meets ground-to-space/space-to-space interface requirements;
  • liaison with the Galileo G2SB1 Satellite System and AIV to ensure timely delivery of DIs (to allow preparation of in-orbit operations) as set out in the industrial activities included in the statement of work, ensuring good coordination between the Platform Engineering Team and all other teams involved, ESA and external;
  • technical responsibility for satellite platform anomaly-handling, NRBs, NCR process, RFD/W, etc. in close cooperation with all other relevant disciplines;
  • participation in Agency project reviews and lower-level reviews related to your area of competence;
  • coordination of the Platform Engineering Team's work and resource allocation to ensure timely execution;
  • support for the G2SB1 Satellite Verification and Space Segment Control Boards' processes in your area of responsibility;
  • identification, leading and efficient coordination of specialised engineering support needed from the Directorates of Technology, Engineering and Quality, and Operations;
  • regular and ad hoc reporting to the head of the G2SB1 Space Segment Management Service on all aspects of satellite platform development, proactive monitoring of relevant schedules, identifying risk and problem areas and proposing mitigation actions.

In performing these duties, you will ensure:

  • close cooperation with the Galileo Launcher Interface Manager for all satellite-launcher interface activities;
  • close cooperation with the head of the Galileo Space Segment Equipment Management Unit for all CFI-relevant aspects;
  • liaison with the Galileo G2SB1 Satellite System and AIV and Payload during the implementation of all satellite activities;
  • close coordination with other G2SB1 functions (PA, PMSO, Security and Contracts) and other Galileo areas (system, operations and other segments) as appropriate to maximise efficiency in carrying out the project.

You will also be responsible for identifying, assessing, managing and reporting the health and safety risks in your area of responsibility.

Education

A master's degree in electrical or mechanical engineering is required for this post.

A minimum of 10 years' experience in platform engineering is mandatory. A proven ability to work in a project team and to lead and cooperate with industry is desired.

In principle, recruitment will be within the advertised grade band (A2-A4). However, if the selected candidate has less than four years of relevant professional experience following the completion of the master's degree, the position may be filled at A1 level.
